The Chaouen Insider was founded by Renay Weir, an Australian girl who whilst on a career break, discovered Morocco, fell in love with the country and its people and just never left. A former urban and environmental planner with a love for travel, the outdoors and helping others, Renay has an extensive travel history spanning nearly 40 countries.
Travelling solo around Morocco has seen Renay hiking in the High Atlas Mountains, riding camels into the Saharan sunset, attempting to (poorly) surf in Taghazout, climb trees with goats in Essaouira and shopping for bargains in Marrakech’s souks before settling down in the heavenly blue town, Chefchaouen, in January 2018.
A budget conscious backpacker, out to find the best coffee in town and try everything at least once, Renay knows exactly what a traveller wants and needs (and that’s not just a dorm without snorers!). Renay loves meeting travellers from all over the world and finds joy in using her knowledge of Chefchaouen to give travellers an experience they couldn’t find online or by themselves.
‘There is so much more to this beautiful town than just its magical blue streets. You just need a little inside knowledge to know who, what and where. This is where I can help by getting you right to the heart of the town and its people’. Renay Weir
You will most likely find Renay out exploring the medina, hiking, teaching local children English in the streets or visiting local families for a cup of mint tea. Follow her on instagram to keep up to date with her adventures and daily life in Chefchaouen, Morocco.
Renay is always keen for a chat so if you’re passing through Chefchaouen, get in touch.
