Outdoor Adventures

The Rif Mountains are an adventurers play ground. There are so many different options for half, full or multi day walks, mountain biking, swimming and village stays.
See below for different options and we are more than happy to book an official guide to take you or book village stays.

Akchour - Waterfalls and Gods Bridge

After something a little more adventurous than walking the blue streets? Less than 45 minutes drive from Chefchaouen is the stunning Tessalamante National Park. Home to the impressive Grand Cascade and Gods Bridge the park features some great day walks and swimming spots. Akchour regularly ends up being one of our travellers top days in Morocco!

Grand Cascades/Waterfall Hike

This undulating hike alongside the river through mountainous gorges and bush will get you feeling close to nature. With a number of river crossings to navigate and hundreds of photos to take, after a leisurely 45 minute walk from the starting point, take a break and have a hot tea or cold orange juice and admire the Petite Cascade or cool off in the river before continuing on another hour and a half to the Grande Cascade. A very popular swimming hole in summer, admire the 100m high waterfall and join the locals for a tagine and a swim before walking back via the same route to the park entrance.

Gods Bridge Hike

The impressive Gods Bridge is a natural arch spanning 25 metres high over the gorge. It can be viewed from on top or below, it just depends on how hard of a walk you want!

I am not lying when I say this is a tough uphill hike! What you are rewarded with though is impressive 360 degree views of the park and valleys below and of course you get to walk across Gods Bridge and admire the gorge below! But please do not try and walk down to the water from Gods Bridge! You will need to go back to the start and follow the river walk.

River walk:
Personally this is one of my favourite spots at Akchour. Feel like a kid again rock hopping back and forth across the river until you see God’s Bridge towering overhead. Be prepared to hop, jump, skip and walk across wooden bridges but it will all be worth it because you will have some of the most beautiful clear swimming holes to cool off in and the tastiest tagines cooked over fires alongside the river. Keep an eye out for monkeys playing in the trees overhead.

Time: 1-1 &1/2 hours return
Level of fitness: Medium
Price: On inquiry if wanting to go with a guide

*Note this route is only available when the river is low.
